Guillain-Barré Syndrome & Vaccine Injuries
Fighting for Vaccine Injury Victims – Get the Compensation You Deserve
Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a rare but devastating neurological disorder that can be triggered by vaccines like the flu shot or COVID-19 vaccine. It causes the immune system to attack the nerves, leading to rapid-onset muscle weakness, numbness, paralysis, and in severe cases, the need for a ventilator or long-term care. Recovery can take months or even years — and some victims are left with permanent disabilities that impact every part of their life.
Because of how serious and life-altering GBS is, vaccine injury claims involving this condition often result in high payouts through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). Victims may qualify for full compensation for medical bills, lost income, home modifications, rehabilitation, and pain and suffering. At My Vaccine Lawyer, our attorneys have deep experience handling GBS claims in vaccine court and are committed to securing the maximum possible compensation for every client.

Hear Cheryl's Vaccine Injury Story
Cheryl, a former client of My Vaccine Lawyer, shares her experience with Shoulder Injury Related to Vaccine Administration (SIRVA) following a flu shot. She describes the sudden onset of pain, limited shoulder mobility, and a long recovery process that led her to seek legal help from attorney Max Muller.
With his support, Cheryl filed a successful claim through the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program and received a settlement covering her medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. SIRVA symptoms typically include sudden pain within 48 hours of vaccination, restricted range of motion, and discomfort that can last for weeks or months.
Types of Vaccine Injury Cases We Handle
Most people don’t expect a vaccine to trigger a neurological disorder, but Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) has been linked to several common vaccines — especially the seasonal flu shot, and more recently, certain COVID-19 vaccines. In some individuals, the immune response triggered by the vaccine mistakenly attacks the body’s peripheral nerves, leading to the rapid onset of muscle weakness, numbness, and in severe cases, paralysis.
GBS can begin just days after vaccination, and early symptoms are often overlooked or misdiagnosed. When this adverse reaction is confirmed, the starting point for a vaccine injury claim is medical documentation showing the timing of symptoms and ruling out other possible causes. You don’t need to prove negligence — if your condition fits the known reaction profile, you may be eligible for compensation through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP).
GBS After Routine Vaccination
We take on cases where otherwise healthy individuals developed Guillain-Barré Syndrome after routine vaccines like the flu shot or COVID-19 vaccine. These claims often involve sudden, severe symptoms that turned lives upside down in a matter of days — and we know how to build strong cases backed by clear medical timelines and expert support.
Failures in Diagnosis and Care
We represent clients whose condition was ignored or misdiagnosed in critical early stages. When hospitals or doctors miss the signs of GBS, it often leads to catastrophic results — extended paralysis, ICU stays, or months in a rehab facility. We hold providers accountable when their delays made a bad situation worse.
Permanent Life Changes and Long-Term Disability
Many of our clients can no longer work, walk unassisted, or live independently after suffering vaccine-induced GBS. We handle the most serious cases involving full or partial disability, helping victims recover substantial compensation for long-term care, home modifications, lost future income, and everything it now takes to live day to day.

Still Have Questions?
-
Can Guillain-Barré Syndrome be caused by the flu vaccine?
Yes. The flu vaccine has been linked to rare cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, where the body’s immune response damages the peripheral nervous system. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has acknowledged this risk, and GBS following a flu shot is a recognized vaccine related injury under the federal vaccine court.
-
What makes GBS claims different from other flu shot injuries?
Guillain-Barre Syndrome often leads to severe outcomes like paralysis, respiratory failure, or long-term rehabilitation. Because of the long recovery and potential for permanent disability, vaccine injury attorneys pursue higher compensation for GBS cases than for most other flu shot injuries.
-
How are federal claims handled for Guillain-Barré Syndrome cases?
GBS cases are handled through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, a no-fault system for federal claims. Claims are filed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims—also called federal vaccine court—and require detailed medical evidence linking the vaccine to the injury.
-
What kind of support do you offer vaccine injury clients with GBS?
We help vaccine injury clients by handling every part of the claim process—from collecting medical records and expert opinions to filing in federal court and negotiating compensation. Our focus is on clients with serious, life-changing conditions like Guillain-Barré Syndrome.
-
Why should I hire a lawyer experienced in vaccine related injury cases?
Vaccine injury attorneys know how to navigate the highly specialized process of filing in vaccine court, especially for complex conditions like Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Without experienced legal help, many legitimate claims are undervalued or denied altogether.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome Lawyers
Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disorder that, although rare, has no known cure. However, GBS has been linked to certain vaccines given annually (including the flu shot). As a result, the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program pays compensation according to qualifying individuals or families suffering from GBS brought on by vaccination. If you or someone you know was recently diagnosed with GBS after receiving a vaccine, it's advised that you speak with one of our lawyers at My Vaccine Lawyers about your legal rights free of charge.

Cheryl suffered SIRVA (shoulder injury related to vaccine administration) following a flu shot. Her vaccine injury claim was filed in the VICP by vaccine lawyer Max Muller where she obtained a large cash settlement for her pain and suffering, lost wages and out of pocket medical expenses.
Which vaccines are linked to Guillain-Barre Syndrome?
Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is a rare condition where the immune system attacks the nerves. While it is rare, understanding which vaccines are associated with GBS can help us protect ourselves and those around us. Vaccines thought to be associated with GBS include:
- Influenza (Flu Shot)
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Human papillomavirus (HPV)
- Tetanus
- Diphtheria
- Polio
Additionally, for those already vaccinated, it is crucial to monitor closely for any signs of GBS developing. If it does, medical care should be sought immediately.

How does Guillain-Barre Syndrome occur?
Guillain-Barre Syndrome occurs when the body's immune system overreacts and attacks healthy nerve cells in the peripheral nervous system. This can cause muscle weakness, tingling, and pain that typically starts in the feet or hands and spreads upwards. In severe cases, it can lead to paralysis and even death.
Signs and Symptoms of Guillain-Barre Syndrome
Signs and symptoms include the following:
- weakness or tingling sensations in the legs (first sign)
- spread of weakness and odd sensations to the arms and upper body
- muscle weakness that rapidly progresses (over a few days or weeks)
- the loss of knee reflexes
The average person's muscles will weaken for 10 days to the point of being unable to walk. However, then the progression stops, and muscle function starts to come back. However, 25% of people who get GBS have permanent neurological disabilities afterward.
When it is severe, the person can become paralyzed and have issues with their breathing and heart function. If this occurs, they are placed on a ventilator to help them breathe. However, sometimes people do not survive even with this medical intervention. Please get in touch with our law firm if you or a loved one have become seriously ill with Guillain-Barre syndrome after getting vaccinated. We are here for you.

What are the effects of Guillain-Barre Syndrome?
The effects of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) vary depending on the individual and the severity of their condition. There are several types of GBS, each with different symptoms and outlooks. In general, however, some possible effects of GBS include the following:
- Changes in blood pressure
- Chronic pain
- Difficulty breathing
- Difficulty maintaining balance (resulting in difficulty walking)
- Loss of bowel or bladder control
- Loss of control of facial movements
- Loss of reflexes
- Respiratory dysfunction
- Sensory impairments
- Paralysis

How we can help with your Guillain-Barre Syndrome Claim
Injuries from vaccines can change your life, and you may be qualified to receive financial compensation through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). After lawsuits against vaccine companies and healthcare providers in the 1980s threatened to reduce U.S. vaccination rates and cause a resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases, the VICP was created. At My Vaccine Lawyers, our team can help you file a claim and guide you through the entire process with the VICP if you have suffered from vaccine-related injuries.
